History
The Thikana of Sagwali represents a distinguished branch of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty, established by the descendants of Thakur Ranmal Ji, who was the grandson of Rawat Kshemakarn (the progenitor of the royal house of Pratapgarh) and the great-grandson of Rana Mokal of Mewar (Chittorgarh). As a prominent vassal estate under the princely state of Pratapgarh, Sagwali played a strategic role in safeguarding the region's borders, particularly during the turbulent periods of Maratha expansion in Central India and the subsequent transition to British suzerainty under the Rajputana Agency. The rulers of Sagwali maintained administrative autonomy and contributed to the local agrarian economy until the thikana was formally integrated into the Indian Union following the merger of Rajputana states post-Independence in 1948, as documented in various historical accounts of Rajputana.
